Printed Electronics Market is one of the fastest growing markets that follow the global trend of miniaturization. It concerns different industries as various as consumer goods, robotics, medical, lighting, wearable technologies and many others.

Today companies face a challenge to find solutions to reduce weight, space and costs of their components to create innovative electronic devices. In low frequency signal transfers,  wire to board and wire to wire connections are usually used. But how can we ensure a good assembly solution?  

Some electronic components companies have Discrete Wire to Flat connection solutions that suit the current demand. The main advantage of this kind of solution are the weight saving and security of connection features.

Nicomatic has also designed a Discrete Wire solution few years ago based on our Crimpflex™ technology expertise and customer’s need to transition signal from FFC, FPC and Printed Electronics to Round wire. To go further in our innovation commitment and the will to encourage our customers’ projects, we are launching a new Discrete wire to Flat cable connection hybrid Mono-housing.

First launched in the USA, DFM is a thin solution from Wire to Flat transition.  DFM combines 2 housings into one non-disengagable solution for an application.

 One side of the housing is used with Crimp wire AWG (22-26) and discrete wire contacts (male- 14671 or female-14672). The opposite side is mating to crimp contacts (male-12410 or female-14106), which ensures excellent mechanical retention and electrical contact by piercing the conductor in 6 points.  This solution allows the use of color identification for wire cables to differentiate various functions, reduce the height and the weight of the housing. For example, one of our clients shared his experience by using DFM in robotics. The main objective of the”2 armed robot project was both economic and technical. A company was looking for robotic hand systems that offer not only optimal dexterity and weight of robot but also reduce costs. DFM was used to interconnect the PCB module with power supply. Color mapping was used to distinguish and make the assembly mounting easier as each wire was connected to different sensors at the bottom.

Moreover, DFM can be adapted to large amount of designs as it covers a wide range from 1 to 20 ways at 2.54mm pitch (0.100”). However if you don’t find a perfect match for your need in the standard range of products, we can propose a custom solution specially designed for your project.
