The gold flash plating is backward and forward compatible. Backward means soldered with tin lead and forward with pure tin soldering process. Between the 2 processes there can be a difference in temperature of 20 to 30C and 10 to 30 seconds. Gold flash plating withstands all the different curves, which is a big advantage compared to tin/lead or pure tin.
This also means that you can use your pure tin or tin/lead soldering process for CMM connectors, the choice being dependant more on the other components of the board and the decision to have a total RoHS compliant product.
Yes. The connector has been developed to perform under conditions of extreme vibration. It can be used in a Formula 1 or in a fighter ! (Shock severity: 100g for 6 ms vibration 0,75 mm, 10g RMS 6 hours long random with superimposed sinusoid. CMM as a highly modular standard system allows up to 20 million configurations!
Therefore, numerous configurations are possible given the type of connector. For example, in a CMM 220 configurations are limited by the space to up 15 cavities. In a CMM320, 32 contacts can be mixed with 20 special contacts "Coaxmatic30". In a CMM340, these possibilities are much higher.
A mixed version of CMM320 and CMM340 allows the best combination in terms of mixed layout and space.

When the current comes from a PCB and out, the designer prefers to put the female on the PCB and male on cable or flex rigid PCB. The option of reverse fixing allows to use the F fixings on the female (CMM 222) and then the M fixing on the male connectors (CMM 221) whereas it is normally not possible. It is a practical solution especially appreciated in a number of applications.
Yes. We don't use pure beryllium for the contact sockets, but a beryllium++(<=2%) copper alloy. That is authorized and compliant with RoHS & REACH regulations.

CMM micro-connectors are submitted to vibration test after being submitted to life test (2 500 mating/unmating cycles) and of course they are mated (between 2 connectors and not 1 connector to PCB). The 3-axis vibration test allows to check the signal stability (no interruption greater than 1 micro second), which is a requirement for MIL-DTL-55302F standard.

The mono backshell is a one part accessory with a very thin profile. It can be used with medium or long shell profiles.
Our standard backshells are with a straight entry. They are available with elliptical or circular entry according to the shell size used.
Generally, these backshells are used with smaller AWG cables and where space is more critical.
Using a backshell can avoid the backpotting as the function maintains the cable and protects the contact. It is more flexible as you can reinsert the contacts (that are removable).

No. In order to get the perfect crimping of your CRIMPFLEX contacts you need to use CRIMPFLEX presses.
All this equipment is manufactured in-house.
No. As the cutting part is as long as that of female contacts (2.6mm), you need to crimp using a female tooling for the male 11612 and 13595 contacts. It is an exception.
Therefore, please either order a 10025-MOF press or change the tooling on your 10025-MO to the female one.
Patent & trademark. The Crimpflex connection system complies with the most rigorous electrical & mechanical requirements. The crimping of the contacts is obtained by piercing the conductor in 6 points. This ensures excellent mechanical retention by 2 points & electric contact by 4 points with the lowest possible contact resistance.
A solder tab can be soldered or fit into I.C. sockets or wipe contacts whereas the male contact will mate with most female connectors designed to accept a 0.635mm pin headers.
3 A (Dc) in standard or 5A (Ac) whether in 1.27mm pitch or 2.54mm pitch. The 2.54mm contacts have also been successfully tested at 5.5 A (Dc) in a number of applications by our customers.
Due to the way we crimp thru the conductive layer, we get excellent results. At 3A the temperature goes up. For example with 7 contacts at 3A for 1hour 54 cable temperature goes up by 84°C if outside temperature is 30°C global temperature is over 105°C. So you need to choose carefully your cable (our cable polyester is guaranteed at 105°C, and we can provide polyimide cable that goes up to 125°C according to customer appliance).
The high insertion female contact (ref 10025) is recommended for the automotive market thanks to an excellent resistance to vibrations.
A lower number of mating cycles results from increased retention for high vibration applications. The low insertion female contact (ref. 11506) is recommended for up to 500 mating cycles when using gold plated contacts and up to 50 mating cycles for tin plated contacts. Ref 10025 is suggested for up to 10/15 cycles. Beyond, use rather 11506 part number.

It is a polyester carrier with pre-positioned domes. It can be described as a custom made array according to the specification of our customers.
The array will make it possible to place at once all the keys of your MMI switch. This you will avoid all problems related to dome positionning, lacking dome double or reverse dome.
The array with kiss cuts is an array with a series of cuts in the polyester/adhesive carrier around the dome. It is considered as a standard product. However, P.A.S. arrays tend also to become a standard. It depends on the usage.
P.A.S. (Pre-assembled spacer). It is an additional layer applied under the retaining layer with channels enabling a volume of air around the dome. The spacer can be made of different materials, for example with polyester 0.1mm thick or transparent PET 0.1mm thick.
The ventilation is made via channels in the spacer layer connecting the various dome chambers.
This is called sweet spot. It can vary depending on the dome size and criteria (click ratio -trip force). Main figures are:
N4 = 0.3-0.5mm
N5 = 0.5-08 mm
Good to know: the more the actuator is centred the best tactile and life expectancy you get.
Gold electrolytic is recommanded, but tin plated or screened silver ink can be used.
It is a patent & trademark of Nicomatic. The Switch'Air dome helps to create a cushion of air between the domes so that they do not stick together. This process ensures an efficient and reliable automatic placement.
There are 2 types of dimple : dimple & micro-dimple. The micro-dimple exists for 6mm domes. Thanks to its small size it allows, in case of dust on the circuit, to eliminate the dust and make the contact.
The dimple on the 8.4mm,10mm & 12.2mm is recommanded for flexible circuits in order to limit the travel.
Nicomatic tests reach up to 10 million activations. We guarantee 1 million activations for 100% of our production. This guarantee can go up to 5 million activations as indicated on our drawings.

All domes are sold in bulk or on custom made arrays. 4-legged domes are also packaged in tubes (to be used on high speed assembly processes or Pick & Place machines) or tape & reel (8.4, 10 and 12.2mm diameter domes).
By default, the standard dome is delivered in class D. However, it is possible to request tighter tolerances as shown underneath:
A class (upon request):Tolerance center is reduced to +/- 15g (N8.4,N10), and to +/-20g for N12.2.
B class (upon request). Tolerance is never below the trip force indicated in the spec of the D class
C class (upon request). Tolerance is never above the trip force indicated in the spec of the D class
D class = standard dome with standard tolerance
We have 2 recommendations depending on the type of dome:
> Pattern for round domes: 4 and 5mm
> Pattern for 4-legged domes: 6, 8.4, 10 and 12.2mm

Bounce definition: When a switch is actuated and contacts touch one another under the force of actuation, they are supposed to establish continuity in a single, crisp moment. Due to the mass of the moving contact and any elasticity inherent in the mechanism and/or contact materials, contacts will "bounce" upon closure for a period of milliseconds before coming to a full rest and providing unbroken contact.

For parts which contain adhesive if not kept in recommended conditions the adhesion properties can degrade overtime. Keep the parts in ambient temperature of about 23 degrees Celsius and around 65% Relative Humidity.
Yes, all Nicomatic parts carry a unique lot number which allows easy traceability.
You can find this number on the label that is placed on the packaging of the parts as well as on the Certification of Conformance.
For example for domes this information appears on the label on the box and on the tube or bag and for Crimpflex reeled contacts, on the outside of the reel. The same applies to CMM, DMM, LEDs, FFCs, Spacer material etc.

Yes, if the parts are used under recommended conditions and it is determined that Nicomatic is the reason for the defect; the parts can be replaced by placing a new order and the credit note will be assigned to the returned parts.
A number of reasons could be responsible for the shortage, wrong order entered, wrong count at packaging, counting mistakes, etc. Please contact our sales department, however for some parts which are weight counted + 3% could be expected.
