PCB Assembly and Wiring Training:  IPC

IPC standards define acceptability requirements across critical industries: defense, aerospace, space, medical, and energy.

  • IPC-A-600: acceptability criteria for printed circuit boards (PCBs)
  • IPC-A-610: acceptability criteria for electronic assemblies (soldered PCBs)
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620: requirements for cables and wire harnesses

These standards are required by prime contractors and directly engage the responsibility of quality and production teams. Yet their application remains inconsistent: partial readings of the standard, in-house training without an official reference, verbal hand-offs between operators. These approaches lead to conflicting interpretations and costly non-conformances.

The Real Cost

On PCBs: Defect detection on circuits, unplanned additional costs, etc.

On PCB assemblies: Solder joints with insufficient wetting missed at inspection, out-of-tolerance components, component placement errors, etc.

On wiring: Crimps or solder connections outside acceptance criteria, shielding rework compromising EMC integrity, splices with insufficient mechanical strength in vibration-prone environments, etc.

In critical environments, these defects can remain latent for months and surface at the worst possible moment.

IPC-A-600, A-610, and A-620 Training Delivered by Nicomatic

At Nicomatic, IPC culture is an internal practice: our wiring operators are trained to the IPC-A-620 standard, and Nicomatic holds trainers with CIT (Certified IPC Trainer) status.

The three training courses we offer are:

IPC-A-600 Training: PCBs
Aimed at customer and supplier quality managers, incoming and in-process inspection staff, purchasing personnel, engineers, technicians, and operators.

Objectives:

  • Discover and apply A-600 acceptability criteria
  • Use the IPC-A-600 standard for printed circuit board inspection
  • Obtain the IPC-A-600 CIS certification

IPC-A-610 Training: PCB Assembly
Aimed at quality managers, quality department staff, process engineers and technicians, production technicians and operators, visual inspectors, and rework technicians.

Objectives:

  • Discover and apply A-610 acceptability criteria
  • Use the IPC-A-610 standard for electronic board inspection
  • Obtain the IPC-A-610 CIS certification

IPC/WHMA-A-620 Training: Cables and Wire Harnesses
Aimed at quality managers, quality department staff, engineers, process technicians, production and support technicians and operators, visual inspectors, and rework technicians.

Objectives:

  • Discover and apply A-620 acceptability criteria
  • Use the IPC-A-620 standard for cable and wire harness inspection
  • Obtain the IPC-A-620 CIS certification

All courses combine theoretical instruction with digital learning materials. For the A-620, an optional one-and-a-half-day hands-on practical session is available, led by our CIT trainer.

They are held in Haute-Savoie, within Nicomatic's industrial facilities, a real production environment.

Who Are These Trainings For?

Any organization working on equipment for harsh environments, subject to IPC requirements in their contracts, or looking to strengthen their assembly processes as part of a quality management approach (EN 9100, ISO 9001, DO-160, MIL-STD…).
